After a bit of practice… I got to work welding on the bike. Not the prettiest welds ever… but solid and and functional After grinding and sanding and filling, they will be invisible anyway.
For anyone out there wanting to get into welding… make the extra investment to do real MIG welding. IT is absolutely worth it. I’ll never weld with flux core again… unless I need to work our doors or some other reason… but certainly not in the shop.
Here’s a shot of the tank with the filler panel and new Harley style fuel filler bung welded in. Below that you’ll see the mod I’m making to the frame. The stock Honda has several areas where the sheet metal is hydro formed leaving an ugly ridge. I’ve welded in a bit of 1/4in round bar beneath the surface and ground it down flush.
